Acupuncture needles are very fine. They feel nothing like hypodermic needles that doctors or nurses use for injections. Generally, patients do not feel the needle being inserted. What you may feel is a mild, dull sensation when the needles are in place but shouldn’t experience any significant pain. In some cases, the needles may be stimulated by rotating them or by using a mild electric current (electro-acupuncture).
